Le Méridien Bangkok, for that artsy vibe

One of the coolest hotels we stayed at this recent trip to Bangkok was Le Meridien Bangkok.

It exudes contemporary chic and its art installations did not go unnoticed by our canine loving two year old.

A giant dog which was an installation by celebrated Thai artist Wasinburee Supanichvoraparch greets guests at the entrance, while the lobby smells amazing with its signature scent.. more colorful backlit dogs on display and our 2 year old is completely sold.

The giant glass entrance door is covered by more semi opaque drawings of brooding men with sunnies on and there’s artworks by local artists displayed in the lobby, that the hotel occasionally hosts exhibitions for.

Situated in the centre of Bangkok’s Silom district, Le Méridien Bangkok has easy access to the BTS skytrain and MRT subway, and is just steps away from shopping, dining, and the excitement of the Patpong Night Market. Merging chic, contemporary design with modern comforts, the guestrooms whilst slightly worse for wear, are clean enough and are of passable standards.

But one of the saving graces of this hotel, are the spa and the pool area – don’t miss a massage here. Highly relaxing and totally worth the price you pay for 1.5 hours.  The Lifestyle floor houses a fitness centre, an outdoor swimming pool, where guests can relax with the usual pub grub food and cool drinks at the Plunge Bar while soaking up the sun & enjoying chart music, if that’s your thing.

best spa ever

The room we got was clean enough but bordering on kitsch cheesy  – a round bed with dark red, velour trimmings and headrest.. hmm…  go figure. But if you want to go further I guess it really rather blended in well with Patpong district that just a few hundred yards from the hotel!

Late night shopping at Patpong

The Latest Recipe restaurant offers great international lunch and dinner buffets though à la carte dining is also an option. The buffet comes with a meat carving station, a grill station along with pasta, pizza, soups, salads, seafood, sushi and sashimi along with great Thai desserts and superb Italian style ice cream. The restaurant hovers on a mezzanine floor above the lobby offering an almost post-industrial ambience with high ceilings made of glass and chrome.

The narrow Bamboo Chic bar has an extensive wine list though and unique pre-dinner cocktails can be had down in the lobby at Latitude 13 where one is close to the noisy street yet utterly removed from it at the same time.

And my favourite event… is, Le Meridien’s Sunday brunch – a B1,700 free-for-all of French Provencal and Mediterranean dishes with live Asian cooking station. Throw in an extra B700 and you’ll get free-flow alcohol (though you’ll need to make it B2,355 if you want to upgrade to the bubbly Bollinger!)

The menu covers all the Sunday seafood essentials—oysters, mussels, clams, snails, banana prawns, squid, baby octopus, blue crab, sea almond, razor clams, smoked salmon—on top of a healthy salad corner. Sushi and sashimi are also on offer, while Teppanyaki Grill sizzles meat and seafood live, together with show dishes such as strawberry risotto, foie gras, scallop tartar, and egg Rossini. Also artisan pizzas, pastas noodles and a complete desert bar, make it 100% totally worth it. They have a play area with a nanny to watch over the little ones so it’s great for young families too!

All in all a fantastic stay. Service and the food was great. This place comes highly recommended by CCFoodTravel!
